Entertainment: Movies, or Video Games?
The Halo Trilogy is one of the most popular video games in entertainment today. The latest installment, Halo 3, "rang up a record-smashing $170 million in retail sales within its first 24 hours in U.S. stores" (Los Angeles Times). And this is in the U.S. alone!
Halo 3 did better than the top grossing movie "Spider-Man 3" which only made $151 million in its opening weekend!
It seems that video games are becoming more and more successful than movies. I mean, Microsoft's Halo 3 made more money than the most popular, highest grossing movie ever made! But does that mean that people in the movie industry will lose their jobs? Most certainly not. Not all people are gamers and interested in video games, but not all of those will go crazy buying all these different video games.
I think that video games are more entertaining than movies because instead of yelling at the movie screen, trying to tell the character what to do, in video games, you actually control every move that your character makes. With movies, you can pay a small amount to watch a movie only once. But if you want to see the movie again, you have to keep paying. The amount of money that you use accumulates, and you eventually lose a large amount of money, depending on how many times you see the movie. But with video games, you can pay a large, or small amount, depending on the game, only once and reuse that same game multiple times. And since there are many levels in video games, you never get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. I like video games better than movies because it is practical and inexpensive.
Hey people, this blog is strictly for my media arts course. I might put some things up here when I'm done the course though.
